[RECAP/ EN] 稍息立正我愛你 (Attention, Love!) Ep. 11

Shao Xi and Li Zheng were looking for a mouse in Shao Xi’s room. Shao Xi heard noises and jumped on Li Zheng. He was caught off guard and the two fell on her bed. Shao Xi fell right on top of Li Zheng. She realized the awkward position and wanted to get up. However Li Zheng used his hand to prevent it and kept her where she was. Squeeeee… Shao Xi asked Li Zheng why he was not letting her to get up. Li Zheng said it was because the mouse was next to the bed. Lol. Li Zheng urged her to quiet down as loud noises may invite the mouse to run to the bed. I cannot help but roll my eyes over his amazingly unslick reason. Just confess already! Shao Xi noticed that Li Zheng’s heart was beating faster and faster. Li Zheng released her, assured her that the mouse was gone, and told her to get up. Li Zheng started fixing the bed to mask the awkwardness and then recommended that they switched room temporarily while he took care of the mouse situation in her room. They did just that and that was the end of last week’s cliffhanger. Such an anticlimax. I am super disappointed. I cannot believe I waited a week for this. Li Zheng is now just toying with her.

Li Zheng looked confused when he was alone in Shao Xi’s room. Why boy? Are you seriously still questioning your feelings for her? Shao Xi was in turn looking around his room. She noticed that he had so little stuffs. Shao Xi sat down on the bed and started remembering again how she fell on top of him. Her heart raced again but she reminded herself not to be fluttered by him anymore. Yeah, I definitely understand how she is guarding her feelings. I would probably do the same in her shoes. She saw the graduation picture on his desk and lifted it. She flashbacked to their graduation day when he hugged her and told her not to give up on him.

Li Zheng was surveying Shao Xi’s room and remarked that she had so many stuff so of course, mouse liked it there. He tidied up her toys that fell and picked up the white running shoes that he bought for her. He flashbacked to the day when Shao Xi was angry at him for throwing them away without her permission. He proceeded to tidying up the rest of her room. He picked up the toy that he won at the night market and sat down on the bed. He remembered the time when he won it and gave it to Shao Xi. Hmmm… Of course it is difficult for Shao Xi to move on from him, her whole room is like an homage to Li Zheng. He pressed on the button on its right hand and Shao Xi’s confession came on, “Yan Li Zheng, I really like you.” Li Zheng actually pressed it a few times and I cringed watching this scene. It is somewhat like him reading her diary. It feels so intrusive to me: her sadness, desperation, and regret over her unrequited love were so clearly evident in every word that she said. I do not understand how he could be shocked hearing this. Was it not so obvious? Shao Xi had confessed not once but twice, to his face.

Jin Li was relaxing on his bed and he suddenly wanted to ask Shao Xi out for a walk. Bless him, he really is such a refreshing contrast to Li Zheng. At this point, I really am starting to be fed up of Li Zheng’s lack of action. Jin Li passed his invitation under Shao Xi’s door but as always, Fate likes to play a cruel joke on him. It was actually Li Zheng that received this invitation. They went back and forth a few times until finally, Li Zheng sprayed some cockroach repellent on him. Hmmm… Is that really cockroach repellent? And is it not dangerous sprayed on the eyes?! Jin Li complained over the spray and in Li Zheng’s room, Shao Xi sneezed. Li Zheng actually smiled mischievously in Shao Xi’s room. Lol. Children!

The next morning, Jin Li knocked on Shao Xi’s door to deliver McDonald’s breakfast for her. Wahhhh… Jin Li really is the best! He is so attentive. But again, Fate is still not on his side. So instead of Shao Xi, Li Zheng opened the door and heard of his good intention. Li Zheng asked him why he was there so early in the morning. Jin Li was shocked to see Li Zheng opening the door and started to wonder if something had happened between him and Shao Xi. Li Zheng actually cornered him and told him to stop. Stop what? Why should he stop anything? You have not made any move on Shao Xi and she is still fair game to everyone.  If you want him to stop, do something Li Zheng.

Right on cue, Shao Xi came out of her room and wondered what all the noises were all about. Jin Li asked Shao Xi why she was coming out of Li Zheng’s room. Shao Xi said that they switched room and that it was not a big deal. She dismissed the boys aside on her way to the toilet. Left alone, the boys had another altercation over the switched room. This is actually unfortunate. I think they might get on really well if they were not pursuing after the same girl. They ended their argument and Shao Xi came out of the toilet. Shao Xi asked why they argued and Li Zheng just dismissed it. He also recommended that they not switch back their rooms as all the dirty things in her room came from Jin Li’s room. Lol. So petty. Shao Xi did not catch on the sarcasm there and actually appeared concerned.

In Shao Xi’s room, Jin Li, Xiao Ciao, Xiao Yu, and Han Rong were finishing their assignment. They laughed and cheered in celebration. Shao Xi asked why Han Rong did not appear happy. Han Rong explained that it was too early to celebrate since they had only finished the written portion and still needed to complete the oral presentation. Xiao Yu recommended that they randomly selected a member to present and be done with it. Shao Xi defended Han Rong and suggested that they discuss it while she prepared some instant noodles for everyone.

Jin Li came down to the kitchen to help Shao Xi prepared some supper for everyone. Shao Xi took out some bowls but noticed that she was short one bowl. She looked around the kitchen and opened the top shelf. But a bowl accidently fell out and Jin Li quickly grabbed her before the bowl fell on her. This was a totally dramatic scene for Jin Li. But for Shao Xi, it was not anything special. She casually said thank you and that was it. Jin Li felt awkward after being in such close proximity to Shao Xi and hurriedly left the kitchen for his room. Sigh… Sometimes I really wish Jin Li was Shao Xi’s end game. He passed by Li Zheng and Xiao Ciao as he was leaving, they all wondered why he looked so weird. Li Zheng asked what happened but Shao Xi replied that she too, was puzzled over Jin Li’s behavior.

In his room, Jin Li asked himself why he was so flustered earlier and why a love song kept playing in his mind. Lol. So apparently in this drama, a love song in one’s mind is a sign of falling in love. So convenient! Han Rong was coming home and she met the Jin Pai Girls in the lobby of her building. Oh no! I smell trouble.

Shao Xi passed Jin Li in her corridor and stopped to greet him. He calmly greeted her but then, left quickly with his head down. Shao Xi grabbed his arm and asked what was the matter with him. Jin Li released his arm and claimed everything was alright. Shao Xi asked him to wait for her since she too has a morning class but he declined citing a flimsy excuse. Li Zheng saw the whole exchange. At first, he seemed bothered over Shao Xi’s invitation but then, he appeared bewildered over Jin Li’s unexpected decline. On his motorcycle, Jin Li kept questioning himself why he was feeling so troubled around Shao Xi.

It was the day to present the group project. Shao Xi was looking around for Han Rong who had yet to make an appearance. Xiao Yu was also puzzled because his calls were unanswered. Xiao Ciao asked everyone to calm down since there was still time since they were not the first to present. The professor came in and the Jin Pai girls were the first to present. The Jin Pai leader started by tattle telling on a certain group, i.e., Shao Xi’s group, that bullied one of its members, i.e., Han Rong, to do all the work. So the Jin Pai group “invited” Han Rong to join them out of compassion. Hmmm… Right on cue, Han Rong came in and walked to the front. Xiao Ciao tried to stop her but she released her hand and walked on. The professor told them to start presenting and to give details of the bullying after class.

Xiao Yu asked why Han Rong was joining their group. Han Rong began the presentation and as expected, it was the same material as Shao Xi’s group. The Jin Pai girls are really more like annoying pests than antagonists. Han Rong concluded her presentation and our heroine along with Xiao Ciao and Xiao Yu were called next. Shao Xi made up her mind and she stood up. Xiao Yu, the resident coward, tried to stop her from merely repeating what was already presented but Shao Xi and Xiao Ciao were determined.  The Jin Pai leader was obviously pleased and smiling in her chair in anticipation of Shao Xi’s group complete embarrassment. Shao Xi started introducing their topic and the professor noted the similarity between the two groups. She wondered who was the copycat. Shao Xi clarified that the project was actually prepared theirs and that they never bullied Han Rong. Xiao Yu added that they just discovered Han Rong’s betrayal. Shao Xi stressed that the copycats were the Jin Pai’s girls. The professor declared that this was a serious accusation and asked if they had any proofs. Shao Xi was quiet and the Jin Pai leader was calm because she believed, everyone copied from the Internet. But of course, Xiao Ciao had some! I really love this character. Reminds me a bit of Elle Woods of Legally Blonde.

They were all summoned to the Principal’s office. There, the Principal warmly greeted Xiao Ciao who replied back in a friendly way, “Hi, Uncle Ge.” Everyone, including the Jin Pai girls, was shocked over the friendly banter. Principal asked what was the matter and Xiao Ciao summarized everything. And in came Xiao Ciao’s mom who was the President of the University. Principal asked further clarification, as this was a serious accusation. Xiao Ciao nodded and then proceeded to examine her mother. She asked her mom if she supplied some privileged corporate information to Xiao Ciao a week ago for her report. President Lu replied yes and she further added that the information was so privileged that it would not be found online. She did it only because Xiao Ciao claimed it was crucial to her report if not, she would not have given it to her. Xiao Ciao then concluded her examination by questioning how could such privileged information be used in the Jin Pai girls’ report. She suggested that the Jin Pai girls be investigated for corporate espionage. Lol.

The Jin Pai girls immediately blamed everything on Han Rong. Shao Xi defended her and told her not to be scared. Han Rong then declared that this report was in fact, prepared by the four of them but the Jin Pai girls forced her to say otherwise. Principal concluded that the matter was settled and asked the class professor to handle the matter in accordance to the school rules. The professor asked the Jin Pai bullies to go home while they await the result of the disciplinary committee. The Jin Pai ladies tried to intimidate Han Rong but Shao Xi put up a front and finally, Xiao Ciao stated that Shao Xi was hers from today onwards. Only she, Xiao Ciao, could scold, beat, and bully her from now on. Shao Xi, Han Rong, and Xiao Yu all looked bewildered behind her. Lol. Bullying even a piece of her hair meant dealing with Xiao Ciao. Xiao Ciao is so small and feisty. Adorable! She left after issuing that final statement and commanded everyone to follow her lead. Shao Xi and Xiao Yu were stunned for a little bit but they smiled and happily followed.

Han Rong, however, was contemplating her options and kept looking back and forth from Jin Pai and Shao Xi. She finally decided to catch up to Shao Xi. The Jin Pai girls were waiting for the elevator and the lead girl vowed that she would continue targeting Shao Xi. Li Zheng overheard the conversation and looked ready to push another person off the bridge.

Han Rong called on Shao Xi and thanked everyone for the support. It was the first time that she truly felt that she had friends. She explained that she did not want to give the Jin Pai their report at first, but she was terrified of them so she felt she had to. Xiao Ciao asked whether she would be considered a bad guy after she did not forgive after listening to her sad explanation. Shao Xi glanced sharply at her and Xiao Ciao backed away. Lol. This drama really did not like to take itself too seriously. There is always comedic relief in between serious scenes. Shao Xi comforted her and said that although she could not represent everyone to accept her apology, Han Rong had four years to prove her true character.

Jin Li stopped Xiao Yu in the school corridor. He asked about how the presentation went. Jin Li casually dismissed it and told him to to ask Shao Xi. Jin Li looked troubled over that suggestion and they parted after that. But then, Jin Li called him again and wondered if there was something wrong with Xiao Yu’s room. He described how he felt odd whenever he was in the room and especially, if Shao Xi were around. Jin Li also sang the love song that kept playing in his mind. Lol. Xiao Yu concluded that there indeed was something wrong with him. He jumped into conclusion that it was all either because the room was not clean or someone put a curse on him. Xiao Yu however, explained that his symptoms all point to one undeniable conclusion: that he really, really liked Shao Xi. His symptoms were all caused by love. Jin Li did not believe it at first as he had many past relationships and never felt this way before. Xiao Yu countered that it was because he never truly liked another before. He shared his experience whenever he was around Ru Ping; how he became clumsy just by being around her. Jin Li quietly left to ponder Xiao Yu’s words.

Jin Li came home and took out his old CD player to play “Give Me Your Love by Tank”, the very song that kept playing in his mind whenever Shao Xi was around. He needed some batteries so he went to the kitchen to hunt for some. He sat down and started the song. As he was listening, Shao Xi came by to get some drinks from the kitchen. I think the viewers can actually see the light bulb moment in Jin Li’s mind as he sat down listening to the song with Shao Xi talking away in front of him. Seeee! This is how quickly a character should realize his feelings. Jin Li declared his feelings there and then. Sadly though, Shao Xi rolled her eyes and left. Sigh… I feel really bad for Jin Li. I really wish he redirected his attention to Xiao Ciao, who is more deserving of his interests. In her room, Shao Xi explained that Han Rong quit school to retake the entrance exam and become an actress. And that officially ended Alice Ke’s guest starring plot.

In the school the following morning, the student body was buzzing with news of the plastic surgeries that the Jin Pai girls underwent. They confronted Shao Xi but she denied it saying that she did not care enough about the matter so why would she plan a revenge. But again, this is an episode of tying up knots. Jin Pai bully actually called a truce between them. They were both to keep to themselves and not bother each other anymore. They parted and Xiao Ciao tsk tsk-ed her but Shao Xi was just confused. And of course, she should. It was Li Zheng’s doing all along! Li Zheng’s classmates were also talking about this news gossip. Li Zheng put on his most stoic knowing look. Good one there, Li Zheng. Li Zheng really is an expert schemer; now if only he uses just a teeny tiny portion of his brilliant scheming mind to make a move… Bai Bai approached Li Zheng to invite him for her birthday celebration. He declined of course and walked away. Sigh… Move on Bai Bai. He is not interested.

In a café, Xiao Ciao was showing pictures of boys in her phone for blind date candidate. Shao Xi kept axe-ing them for various reasons. Shao Xi asked why Xiao Ciao was doing this and Xiao Ciao straightforwardly explained it was so that Shao Xi had a boyfriend, Jin Li gave up on her, and then, directed his attention on her instead. Xiao Ciao grew frustrated over the many boys that were denied so she asked her to describe her type or at least, her past crush. Of course, she described Li Zheng: his body type, his clothing style, and even, his lack of smiles. Apparently, Shao Xi’s description was clear enough for Xiao Ciao and so, the next boy shown was deemed: “Not bad!”

Ru Ping came for a visit and was waiting outside of Shao Xi’s building. Shao Xi and Xiao Ciao just came back from school. Ru Ping and Xiao Ciao had a small altercations on who was a better friend to Shao Xi. Lol. Rather juvenile, unrealistic, and cliche scene but hey, who watches drama for its ‘realness’? In Shao Xi’s room, Ru Ping and Xiao Ciao continued arguing over which facial mask was better. Xiao Ciao searched through Shao Xi’s closet for the perfect attire to wear on a blind date and found none. She was already prepared though and took out a white skirt that she brought from home. And the makeover continued. Ru Ping even warmed up to Xiao Ciao and agreed on her fashion choices.

The three girls was coming down the stairs to leave for the blind date. They saw Li Zheng coincidentally coming home. He checked Shao Xi’s unusual attire and asked why she was dressed up? Shao Xi downplayed the blind date plan and said it was merely a dinner among friends. Ru Ping however emphasized that Shao Xi was going on a blind date. Li Zheng kept his facial expression stoic while he excused himself and bid them a good night. Sigh… If you do not show any jealousy whatsoever, your crush/girl/fiancé would not feel cherished. It is healthy to show some jealousy, in fact, it is almost a requirement in any relationship. As he climbed up the stairs, Li Zheng assured Shao Xi that the mouse was caught in the hallway that morning so she should relax from now on. Well I guess, taking care of her problems work well too in expressing your interests. It is just making me want to say, “But.. but…” This seemed to work on Shao Xi though as she adoringly looked up at Li Zheng walking away.

Ru Ping excused herself to meet up with Xiao Yu since she felt Shao Xi was in good hands with Xiao Ciao. Shao Xi thanked her and recommended that she looked for Xiao Yu at school since he was finishing up a report. Ru Ping advised Shao Xi to leave her high school memories behind if she met a good guy at this blind date. Ru Ping really knew Shao Xi very well. She arrived at school and asked for direction from the security guard. But just as he was done explaining, Ru Ping saw Xiao Yu walking away with a pretty girl. Sigh… Another misunderstanding?! And now, it is not even on the main couple. Aarghhh…

Jin Li knocked on Shao Xi’s door to ask her for a meal. Li Zheng came out to tell him that Shao Xi was out to dinner with Xiao Ciao because she wanted to introduce a boy to her. Jin Li could not believe that Li Zheng did nothing although he knew this. The argument following between the two boys really was well written. The two boys argued over whether this dinner was merely a dinner or something a little bit more. It really showed how clueless Li Zheng was when it came to dating and relationships and of course, how different the two boys really were. And yeah, the “pa pa pa”, that Jin Li used to illustrate the various scenarios that could play out that date after the date, is a slang for the horizontal bop. Hihihi… Jin Li’s view is a bit of an exaggeration but Li Zheng’s stoic indifference is also too much of an understatement. And in a way, it was a good thing that Jin Li exaggerated because, it worked and made Li Zheng reconsider things.

Xiao Ciao introduced her friend, Teddy (cameo Huang Hung Xuan), to Shao Xi. Teddy was a replica of Li Zheng. In industrial term, if Li Zheng was first quality, Teddy would be second quality. His clothing, demeanor, and even, hairstyle matched Li Zheng. Shao Xi was stunned looking at Teddy and he noticed it too. Teddy asked why she was staring at him. Shao Xi answered it was because he was so similar to her “friend”. Their food came and Xiao Ciao started casually picking food using her chopsticks. Teddy appeared uncomfortable and Shao Xi caught it. Shao Xi asked if Teddy was used to using communal chopsticks to pick food. He replied yes and Xiao Ciao was shocked to hear this as she had known him for years and shared many meals together. Xiao Ciao really could be so self-absorbed in her own world but, contrary to her appearance, she could be thoughtful as she adapted the communal chopsticks.

Jin Li and Li Zheng came to snoop on the girls. They bought drinks and sat in a hidden corner. Jin Li immediately eyed the blind date and recited everything that was going on to Li Zheng. Li Zheng ignored it at first. Li Zheng, just stop pretending not to care. You are there already. No use pretending. Jin Li started noticing there are the striking similarities between Teddy and Li Zheng and mentioned it to Li Zheng. Li Zheng said that he was overthinking things but Jin Li asked him to verify it himself. Li Zheng finally did. Lol. And then, jealousy struck. It was about time! Sadly though, instead of sticking around, Li Zheng left. Sigh…

Back to Xiao Ciao and Shao Xi’s table, Teddy excused himself to go to the toilet and left the girls alone. Xiao Ciao encouraged Shao Xi to seize the day and date Teddy. Shao Xi was unconvinced since they had only met today. Xiao Ciao scolded her for her old-fashioned views. And of course, Xiao Ciao did the whole I-have-somewhere-to-be-so-I’m-leaving-first move and left Shao Xi alone with Teddy.

Apparently, Li Zheng did not go home after snooping. He went to a pitching cage to throw some balls. He must be feeling unhappy since he always threw balls when depressed. He started remembering Shao Xi at her blind date with Teddy, Shao Xi crying when Da Mao read out her diary entries, Shao Xi crying as she came out of the cinema, Shao Xi crying and scolding him for throwing away her shoes, and finally, Shao Xi confessing her feelings and asking him to date. Li Zheng hit the marks one by one as these flashback scenes played out in his mind but he finally stopped at the last number just in time as he was reminded of Shao Xi asking how he felt and if he would date her. The moment realization hit Li Zheng was clearly portrayed and it was about time! He dashed out of the cage and ran all the way back to the restaurant.

Shao Xi was walking home with Teddy and Teddy hailed a cab. Li Zheng saw the twosome and stopped in his track. What?! After all that running and you freeze? Shao Xi told Teddy that she could go home by herself but Teddy insisted because they could get to know each other better on the way. Before Shao Xi could express her decision, Jin Li draped his arm around Shao Xi, thanked him for his good intentions, and told Teddy that he could bring his “girlfriend” home himself. Teddy seemed rather taken back upon this news but he quickly recovered and said it was nice to meet Shao Xi. Jin Li dragged the complaining Shao Xi away and Teddy left in a cab.

Along the way, Shao Xi elbowed Jin Li and asked what was the matter with him. Jin Li honestly explained that he liked her and so he did not like it to see her seeing other guys. Jin Li stressed that his feelings were not a joke. Shao Xi said that she never considered him as a joke but she already had someone else in mind that she liked. Jin Li declared that he knew she liked Li Zheng but so what. He did not mind. He also came clean about his other alter ego with whom she had shared her feelings. That it was really not a girl and it was in fact, him. He claimed his feelings for her had slowly grown since their conversation on the gaming app. He asked if she were meeting other guys to forget Li Zheng, why could it not be with him. Sigh… I really pity him. The writers are just too cruel to Jin Li.

Comment
If I were to describe this episode: major disappointment. How can Li Zheng freeze at the last stretch?

Things have been going around in circles for a few episodes now and nothing has changed. I do not even remember the last time there is progress. Sigh… This episode is a waste of an hour. The whole Alice Ke’s guest starring role is unnecessary. Seems like her role is to be a catalyst in the Jin Pai – Shao Xi clash. But come on, these Jin Pai antagonists are too weak to be considered more than pests. They do not provide any real conflicts. Honestly, I am dissatisfied over the antagonist plot. If it were done stronger, I think it would add a layer of coolness and relevance to this story. Alice Ke is a great actress too; her minor stint even managed to ring a tear or two, but what a waste of talent. Her appearance does not propel the storyline and serves merely as filler to an already draggy plot.

On to the next episode. I wonder what other fillers are going to be thrown our way?
